The Amphibian Playground comprises of two separate races, 'The Naze Channel Challenge' which has been designed for participants with no previous paddling experience and the 'Horsey Island Circumnavigation' which has been designed for participants who have basic paddling experience and desire the adventure of the open sea!
Entry to both races is in teams of two. You and your team mate will be provided with a double sit-on-top kayak (you will not be enclosed in the kayak), paddles, buoyancy aids and safety equipment / cover. All you have to do is turn up in the recommended gear and play!
The Naze Channel Challenge
No previous paddle experience required.
All participants must be over the age of 14 yrs as of July 23rd 2010.
14-17 yrs participants must have parental / guardian (loco parentis) consent to compete in the race. On race day the loco parentis will have to sign to say they have read, understood and agreed the 'conditions of entry'. The loco parentis however does not have to compete in the race/chaperone the 14 -17 yrs but be contactable during the race in case of an emergency.
Participants must enter as a team of two.
Participants must be able to run at least 3km cross country, swim at least 20 meters and feel confident on open water.
Headland Trail
The adventure starts with 1.5km off-road run across the beautiful Naze headland and beach, with a few obstacles thrown in for added fun!
The Naze Channel
Running over the sea wall, you and your team mate will be faced with a huge playground of double sit-on-top kayaks.
Once you've re-hydrated and kitted yourselves up with buoyancy aids, paddles and a double sit-on-top kayak, you and your team mate will haul your kayak to an appropriate launch site. You will then have to work as a team to navigate your way along Cormorant Creek and down to the bottom of Walton Channel, where you will land your kayak (2.5km).
Dash to Amphibian
With two sections of the playground complete, all that's left is to race across the 1km dirt track to the Naze tower to claim your place in Amphibian history!
Horsey Island Circumnavigation
Basic paddle experience required.
Participants must be over the age of 16 yrs as of July 23rd 2010.

With your 2.5km paddle warm up complete, its now time for you and your team mate to take on the Backwaters!!
You and your team mate will circumnavigate Horsey Island (7km); paddling west down the Twizzle, over the Wade, passed Skippers Island, east along Hamford Water and down to be bottom of Walton Channel, where you will land your kayak!

With three sections of the playground complete, you now only have the 1km dirt track sprint finish to the Naze tower to claim your place in Amphibian history!
